As of now, the gaming industry is divided over which is more popular – The PS3 or the Xbox 360. Now, even though I’m partial ever since I bought the 320GB PS3 Consoles for Sale, I’ll try and do a brief yet accurate comparison between the two gaming systems.
Believe me, it ain’t that easy! Both the PS3 and Xbox systems have their own positives and negatives, but then there are some points in which each of these gaming consoles has an edge over the other. However before we dive in to examine the difference between a PS3 and an Xbox 360, let’s get to know these consoles a little better.
PlayStation 3 (PS3)
The PlayStation 3 from Sony is the 7th generation game console system that was launched in 2006. An instant hit among various age groups owing to its HD optical disc format, which made gaming even more exciting, the PS3 also provided a Blu-Ray disc as a storage medium which simply meant more place to store data. As of now, there are various variants of the PS3 available in the market such as the 160GB PS3 Console, the 250GB PS3 Console and PS3 320GB Console.
Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 on the other hand was launched by Microsoft in late 2005. The biggest factor in the popularity of Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live, which played a crucial role in the tremendous success of the console the world over. Other than online gaming and downloading, Xbox 360 also allowed the playing of TV shows and movie broadcasts. At present, two variants of the Microsoft Xbox 360 – the Arcade and the Elite are available in the market.
PS3 vs. Xbox 360 Comparison
Okay so let’s move on to the comparison between these two gaming console systems.
GPU and CPU Comparison
The GPU, i.e. the graphics processing unit, and the CPU, i.e. the central processing unit, are two very important
components of the video game console. The Xbox 360 has a Xenos GPU which in my opinion is slightly more powerful than the RSX GPU in the PS3. However, the microprocessor chip in the PS3 is more powerful than the triple-core Xenon CPU in the Xbox 360 which makes the PS3 overall better.
Storage Comparison
Even before the comparison, I give my vote to the PS3 which uses a Blu-ray Disk as the primary storage medium and store around 54 gigs of data. The Xbox 360 uses a double layer DVDs as the primary storage medium which can store only 9 gigs.
Price Comparison
The cheapest Xbox is the Arcade version that is priced at $200 while the higher end version is priced at $400(The Elite). On the other hand, one can find PS3 Consoles for Sale starting at under $200 and even the higher end versions can be got for $349.
Online Gaming
While Microsoft charges a monthly fee for online gaming, Sony offers online gaming for free. This is one of the most important reasons why a PS3 has an edge
All said and done, my vote does go to the Sony PS3 although an Xbox is also not that bad an option. As of now, Amazon is running special discount on the PS3 so why don’t you go and grab one for yourself now! Else, you can read my in-depth Review of the 320GB PS3 Consoles for Sale and then make your decision.
